The Value of Feedback
What do book reviewers really think about Midgard?
Thanks to a recent Book Award contest I entered, I think I’m starting to get a good idea about the answer to that question.
I am pleased to announce that Midgard won first place in the Science Fiction Category in the Winter 2023 Outstanding Creator Awards.
This program was one of the smaller contests I entered, but the staff and judges provided an excellent balance of praise, noteworthy moments, and critiques for all of us who participated.
Some of the other categories in which Midgard placed or received an honorable mention:
The Thriller category
The Dystopia / Apocalyptic Fiction / Near Future category
The Action and Adventure category
And the fun categories - honorable mentions in all!
Best World-Building
Best Character (for Sam Richmond)
Best Supporting Character (for Tamara Ashraf)
Best Couple (for Sam and Tamara)
Best Weapon (for the Tornado Bomb, as they called it)
Most importantly (for me), the judges included a candid Book Review. I cannot emphasize enough how much appreciate the constructive feedback. The only thing I cannot address is the use of "tropes" in Midgard, as I have not read any of the books they mentioned. Everything else is excellent.
The big takeaway from the awards placement and review is this: I have a lot of great components, but I need to do a better job of putting them together to make a good story into a great one. I intend make those improvements as I finish the next draft of Book 2.
Thanks for reading - please write a review if you have read Midgard, and, as you can see, honesty is appreciated!
