Book or Business — Part II

Is this a one-time vanity project, or is it something more?

This question—posed by one of my publisher’s marketing advisors—caught me off guard. Midgard was about a month from publication, and I was planning book launch events. When presented with this question, I realized that I had been so focused on writing and editing the book that I had neglected to think about what I wanted to happen after the book came out.

Among other musings, I acknowledged that a story–like similar artistic endeavors – is just one outcome of the creative process. There is no obligation to make it successful by business standards. But… if I decided to share my creation with the world, then marketing (and the money, time, and social energy it required) would be necessary.

If you’d like to hear more about what I learned about life AFTER book launch, you can 1) ask me in person at Birch Tree Bookstore in Leesburg, Virginia on April 29 from 1-2:30 PM EST, 2) subscribe to my newsletters on be-stirred.com as I’ll be continuing this more personal story in subsequent blog posts, or 3) send me questions through my website, or to jeanne@be-stirred.com.
